World renowned Indian classical Pianist, Anil Srinivasan, is in Liverpool for a five week teaching stint at Liverpool Hope University.  Anil teaches three days a week, working with 1st, 2nd and 3rd year music students.

Anil tells us a little bit about the course:

“The course is designed to introduce students to the context, structural basis and philosophical framework behind the design and execution of Indian music. The course also takes into account recent developments including the adoption of several musical instruments in the West, crossover sound and the ways in which Indian music is practised today.  We will also be looking at both North Indian and South Indian classical musical traditions, and highlight some of the musical peculiarities of both traditions. ”

While Anil is here in England, he will also be working on compositions for Samyo, the National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, in preparation for their annual showcase concert on March 12th in London.
