Musical Background

What is the biggest influence on your music? The biggest influence on my music is my teacher Sukhdeep ji who provides a constant source of encouragement and support; he is responsible for my commitment and eagerness to learn. Kousic ji has also been a great influence to my development; from pushing me out of my comfort zone, to inspiring me through his stories, experiences, and our conversations. Listening to a wide range of classical artists perform further encourages my growth, influences my music and affects the way I go about my riyaaz.

How did your Milap journey start? My journey with Milapfest started in 2013 which was when I joined Samyo, but prior to joining I had attended many Samyo and Tarang concerts at the Southbank Centre.

What is your proudest musical achievement to date? Performing at the Royal Albert Hall.

I became a musician because… simply, I am in love with the art form.

Personal

Who are your favourite artists? Ustaad Allah Rakha Khan Sahib, Ustaad Ahmad Jan Thirakwa, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Pandit Yogesh Samsi, Ustaad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Kumar Bose, Ustaad Sukhvinder Singh (Pinky). Ustaad Vilayat Khan, Ustaad Shahid Parvez, Pandit Hariprasad Caurasia, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Purbayan Chatterjee, Jayanthi Kumaresh, Lalgudi Jayaraman, Ganesh and Kumaresh (to name a few..).

If I could make my artistic dream come true I would… be doing riyaaz all day long… also to have the opportunity to perform pure classical regularly at respected venues alongside talented musicians.

When you’re not playing music, what are your favourite things to do?
Listen to music! During summer my favourite things to do include travelling, baking, photography and long distance running!

If I wasn’t a musician, I would be… just a Law student…

What is your favourite musical memory? Learning from my Dadaguru Yogesh ji alongside my gurubhais.

Tarang

Sum up Tarang in 3 words: Creativity, euphoria, love.

The thing I like most about being a Tarang member is… Working with passionate, supportive and crazy musicians who have become more than family.

The thing I am most excited about as a Tarang member is… The plan that Milapfest has for us after the album has been launched, touring the country and then taking our music on to the international scene!
