Akash Patel
Akash has been learning the sitar for ten years under the tutelage of Shri Mehboob Nadeem. Having joined Samyo (The National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music) in 2004, he has performed at many high profile venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre, Birmingham Symphony Hall, and Edinburgh Festival. Akash also won a ‘Fellowship Award’ with the orchestra, this scholarship allowed him to travel to India and train with Pandit Aravind Parikh, a highly regarded Hindustani musician and sitar player.
As a solo artist, Akash has performed commercially on Sony Asia, Zee TV and Aastha TV, and internationally in Barcelona and Mumbai. Akash is now looking to further his understanding and application of North Indian classical music in the future. Joining ‘Tarang’ in 2011, Akash took a step forward on his musical journey, performing in Liverpool, Manchester, London and York with the ensemble. On an educational note, he is currently completing a bachelors degree at the London School of Economics.
