Praveen Prathapan

Praveen Prathapan was introduced to the flute by his father at the age of five. By the age of fifteen, he had completed his flute Arangetram. A diploma holder in music and a recipient of the Asian Music Circuit Award, Praveen has performed solo recitals at prestigious venues such as the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, the Nehru Centre and the Royal Festival Hall. As an ensemble musician, he has extensively collaborated with his school’s Bollywood Orchestra and performed at the Royal Albert Hall, and also at Harvard University, Boston, USA. More recently, he and the Bollywood Orchestra toured Tuscany, Italy.

Praveen has been the orchestra leader of Samyo, the Natioanl Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, where he learned under celebrated artists and performed at esteemed venues in the UK. His contribution to music earned him the Fellowship Award and Carnatic Musician of the Year Award at Samyo. He is now a key member of the national ensemble, Tarang.

Praveen frequently accompanies for dance and has assisted several Arangetrams alongside eminent artists such as Manickam Yogeswaran, Manorama Prasad, Bhavani Shankar, V. R. Chandrashekar and M. Balachandar. Praveen is currently studying under the tutelage of Vamshikrishna Vishnudas and Karaikudi Krishnamoorthy. He has also excelled academically and now reads Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Oxford.
