MFMS Liverpool
MFMS Liverpool is a free concert series, offered as a window into Indian arts and culture, for people of all backgrounds from the city.
The first of our editions of Music for the Mind & Soul started life in 1991 at Liverpool’s Central Library, inspired with the support of BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Umi Prasad. In the beautiful setting of the building, free concerts for people of Liverpool featured some of the greatest artists of India, as well as young up and coming stars as well.
The concert series then moved for several years to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall‘s Grand Foyer, and then Rodewald Suite, an intimate setting that provided years of enjoyment to audiences and artists and saw the likes of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Shujaat Hussein Khan, Sruti Sadolikar, U Srinivas, Shashank Subramanyam, amongst others.
After the reopening of St George’s Hall Small Concert Room in Liverpool, Gaurav Mazumdar and Shahbaz Hussein launched our concert series there (pictured below), and the series ran successfully from 2008-2010 in that wonderful venue.
Since 2010, Milapfest has been a resident partner at Liverpool Hope University’s Creative Campus, and since March of that year, Music for the Mind & Soul Liverpool moved to the brand new purpose built Capstone Theatre. Already in a short space of time, a host of stars have performed here, including Veenai Jayanthi, Bombay Jayashri, Ganesh & Kumaresh, Pt Debashish Bhattachara, Rakesh Chaurasia and others.
The Liverpool concert takes place on the 4th Saturday of each month. People arrive at noon time to relax and tuck into the excellent Indian Food available, before proceeding to the theatre. As a concert that unusually is programmed in the afternoon, it provides a unique opportunity to hear afternoon ragas in a welcoming colourful setting.
