Inside Dance India – The Bharatanatyam Faculty

Posted on February 17, 2014 by Alok Nayak
The faculty at Dance India is the greatest asset the school has to offer.  In this series of blogs we’ll be introducing the 2014 faculty through bios, videos and messages from the tutors themselves!

On the Bharatanatyam faculty this year we have:

V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan – Advanced Class

The Dhananjayans are among the most accomplished dancers and teachers of Bharatanatyam, as well as one of the legendary dancing couples of India. They have been performing and teaching together for over 50 years, and have received many honours around the world for their contributions to dance.

Mythili Prakash – Beginner Class

Mythili Prakash is recognised as one of the world’s leading young exponents of Bharatanatyam. Her classical, yet inventive approach to Bharatanatyam revitalises the physicality, musicality and expressive theatricality of the dance to create an exceptional style that is distinct and meaningful to audiences across the world. While highly acclaimed for her technical and virtuosic skill as a performer, Mythili stays deeply rooted in the inherent spirituality of the art form, which is the driving inspiration of both her choreographic explorations and her own practice.
