Young People

We are committed to encouraging young people from all cultural backgrounds to achieve their potential, which we do in three main areas:

Arts School

We welcome young people as young as four years old to enrol in our Arts School music and dance classes (We also have many adult classes available please see here). Our young pupils can learn not only about Indian culture but also life skills essential for a successful future. Your support can help our pupils achieve:

  • Improved confidence
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Skills in self-motivation and self-discipline
  • Greater awareness and appreciation of different cultures
  • Enhanced health, well-being and fitness levels

SAMYO

SAMYO, the National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, have achieved a brilliant success story over the last ten years including recognition as one of only eight orchestras to be awarded National Youth Music Organisation status by Arts Council England. By supporting SAMYO, you can help:

  • Provide a year round professional development programme for our young members
  • Give bursaries to those who can least afford to train in classical music or who would be unable to attend events away from home
  • Secure high profile performance opportunities (At venues such as: The Lowry, The Southbank Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Bridgewater Hall) to equip SAMYO with the necessary experience to pursue a professional classical music career as they mature into adulthood

Tarang

Tarang, are an older ensemble of musicians aged 18 and over, who are at the beginning of their professional music careers. If you enjoy Indian classical music and want to shape the future of Indian music in the UK, you can support Tarang and help to:

  • Make annual scholarships available for talented musicians to train with some of the best Indian musicians in the world
  • Enable Milapfest to commission new Indian classical music compositions from some of the best composers in the world
  • Make grants available to Tarang members to participate in workshops at Milapfest’s Music India programme (an intensive summer retreat for training musicians)
