Dance India Insights

On Days three and four of the Core Training Programme at Dance India Asia Pacific, we saw great energy, determination and dedication from our participants. After opening days interspersed with a variety of talks and workshops, the last few days were focused on core training. Through two pieces of repertoire each, our participants learned technique and repertoire, of course, but also were taught how to understand nuances of lyrics, stories and the text of the dance. Through this, our participants told us that this is a style of learning that is very different from what they are used to!

Find out what some of our participants thought in “Dance India Insights” below.

After a closing ceremony on Tuesday 9th June, during which participants were given their certificates, shared their insights, and heard from the faculty, we looked ahead to future Dance India editions.

On Day 5, Wednesday 10th June, a group of Singaporean dance teachers were to be given a unique Teacher Training day, including sessions on warm up routines, layam and nattuvanga training, understanding and conceptualising texts and subtexts. The Teacher Training day includes a session each by Anjana Anand, Sheejith Krishna, Dr Gowri Ramnarayan and Priyadarsini Govind.

The fourth Dance India Asia Pacific is taking place in Singapore from Saturday 6th June – Friday 12th June, presented by Apsaras Arts in collaboration with Milapfest and Esplanade Theatres on the Bay. Milapfest’s Head of Dance Development, Archana Shastri, and Artistic Director, Alok Nayak, are reporting from Singapore.
